A single-owner sale consisting of the former collection of William H. Smith, who bequeathed his extensive assemblage of  Asian art and artifacts to the town of Framingham (and later the Framingham History Center) upon his death in 1923. Consisting of over 450 lots, the collection has had no additions since that time and includes over 140 pieces of netsuke and Kagamibuta netuskes with over 100 signed wooden netsukes by artists such as Miwa, Masayuki, Tomokazu, Hojitsu, Hoichi, Ittoku and others; fine metal works and articulated metal and silver figures such as a large articulated iron carp, silver praying mantis, beetle and other insects; fine pottery and earthenware; Chinese table screens including a pre-1925 Republican period porcelain plaque decorated with Famille Rose enamels with roosters in a garden; fine porcelains; Tsubas and other sword furniture; lacquer works, and much more.

Featuring fine Chinese and Japanese mixed metal works of art including a Mya O pair of vases with elevated european figures and cicadas, a Namikawa Yasuyuki cloisonne covered vase, a 19th century Chinese gilt bronze box of a melon with foliage and tendrils, a gilt copper censer with a period Ch'ien Lung mark (1735-1796) featuring dragon's head handles and mythical animals on a brocade ground, a signed 19th century Chinese engraved silver box weighing 47.8 troy ounces; fine porcelains including a 16th century Arnamese ware Vietnamese plate with blue floral underglaze decoration, a marked Chinese Ch'ia Ch'ing period (1796-1820) Ku form beaker with iron red decoration; table screens including an embroidered silk panel with birds and black wood frame carved and pierced with archaic scrolling; art work including an engraving produced in the French Imperial workshops, a Chinese scroll painting (possibly 18th century) in ink and colours on paper marked with three seals including one of Ch'ien Lung's personal study (San Shih Tang); and a rare and important throne cover from the Ch'ien Lung period (1735-1796) featuring a central gold dragon; numerous jades; Tibetan Tangkha, and much more.
